I have a chance to pick a nice Star 45acp for $270. It has a nickel finish and holds 6 rounds. Nice compact 45, but is it worth almost $300? Has rubber grips and a spare 7 rounds mag. What do you guys say? It is a very heavy gun.

I'd have to say $270 sounds fairly inexpensive for a .45. The Star's have decent reputations among folks on this board but when it come to larger calibers... I start worrying a little more about the bomb in my hand(s).... I've grown attached to them. I tend to prefer a more solid gun with a big name at twice the price... but that's just me.

Sounds like you're talking about a Star PD.
If so, grab it!
One of the very best small .45s ever made.

That is a good price

If you have the chance to pick up the star PD for $270 I would.

I bought one of these about 25 years ago and have put every bit of 4000 rounds through it with no problems.
Mine was blued but the finish has worn off, I bet they look sharp in nickel.
