Custom Grip Colors!

KTRange Secret:
Make a grip for your P-32 any color you want!
First, order an Ivory grip from KT - 20 bucks.
Now... buy a packet of Rit dye powder a shade LIGHTER than what you want. I used Rose Pink for my test piece: it looks that way in the pic, but in person it's almost red.
Use a two-quart pot, and dump the entire packet of powder into it. Add one quart of water and bring to a boil. Stir up the dye till the salt is fully dissolved, then lower the heat to a slow simmer. Mmmmm!!! No, don't drink it.
Make sure your grip doesn't have the hammerblock or mag catch in it. Then, lower it into the boiling dye with a fork, gently swishing it around to allow the liquid into all the nooks and crannies.
Let it simmer for at least 20 minutes. No less!
The dye will fully penetrate the polymer, not just coat the outside.
Now, rinse it THOROUGHLY with cold water. Get every trace of salt off; it's not a bad idea to use soap. You don't have to worry about washing the dye off. It's in there!

Now dry it, put everything together, and either give it to someone or go to the range with your new, "Custom Combat" P-32!

Ever seen the movie "Duel"? starring Dennis Weaver? Remember the Demond semi truck? Well Dye a grey P-11 grip yellow and thats the color you get.
This group of letters ran together and triggered something akin to a flashback in my brain.

I'm not quite sure why. The words were familiar, but it was as if my ability to form concepts around these words was stripped away, and I was left floating in the cold, black, echoing depths of outer space...
Wasn't that weird, Fig?
Ah well... think of it this way.
Dennis Weaver dealt with that truck the way a Cro-Magnon man would deal with a Sabertooth.
He beat it.
A Primal Scream comes in handy sometimes. *) *)

What say?

Hey Fig, In English please? Whats the deal man? What are you trying to say?
Hot Pink for the Wife's P-32

Hey Flyer
It was a REAL treat tring to GET that Dang Hammer block back in my P-32. I wouild leave it in if I ever dye another. This Pistol started out as my Oreo. I purchased a new Turquoise colored one last week, so Decided to pass this ole Trusty one to the wife for her purse carry. I let her pick the R.I.T. Dye and she settled on Pink Rose. Here she is Done, and Thanks for all the walk through steps to do this neat change.. *) Hammerdown

What a brilliant idea!

I see that Flyer did the dye job a coupla' years ago. Any adverse effects? I don't know much about organic chem, but it doesn't seem like the dye would hurt anything.

If there have been no problems, I've gotta order a gray P-11 grip and try it!

Thanks,
Dirty Bob
No adverse affects at all! The grips don't seem to have been affected in any way in the half-dozen I've done (except changing color, of course!). *)

These have trditionally been done to the white grips which are no longer made. Let us know how it works with the grey.

We know that orange dye will make a gray grip maroon. I wonder if green would make a gray grip turquoise? I tried the Rit color remover on a gray grip and it didn’t even lighten it. Someone should cut a gray grip into a dozen pieces and try a different Rit color on each piece. Then post pictures so we would know the results in advance.

I've been thinking about this...
I'm going to find a way to bleach out the color of a black grip, see if I'cn make them gray and green.
If so, a custom P-3AT grip is on the fast track to gray or greendom!!!Flyer
Maybe. Decades ago, when I oversaw the molding shop at Schick Electric in Lancaster, PA, most of our black plastics used carbon black as the coloring agent. I'm sure you know that fine carbon particles will not bleach out of a plastic resin.

TucsonMTB . . . who is pretty sure black is still carbon black because it is inexpensive.
Yep, you're right. Black does NOT come out! *)

hhmmmmm..............now what about little michael jackson :?:
I wonder if the dye would perhaps "cover" the black on the black grips? I also saw some new Glocks in a local store with the new digital camo grips. I'd be afraid of dropping it in the yard and not finding it until next time I cut the grass. :)

Nope! Sorry! The black is carbon black and so thoroughly a part of the plastic that there is nothing to absorb the dye.

I've had to give up airplanes. Life is full of choices: Pay the mortgage? Pay all the other bills? Buy fancy mountain bikes? Buy pretty pistols and ammo? Fly model aircraft? Etc . . . etc.

Well, the list needed paring, so I picked persuits for which I don't show much talent. Unlike highly skilled folks, I don't require the assistance of Bald Eagles to trash model aircraft.

Not really! As I recall, the action happened at a fairly high altitude.

Less talented folks, like me, are forced to use less exotic obstacles, like trees and the planet surface to destroy their aircraft.

For those of you who missed the action you can see it here! I thought it was pretty spectacular.

TucsonMTB . . . who only wishes he could fly with eagles
Yeah, yeah, remind everyone! (Jest kiddin').
You know... the Red-Shouldered Hawks that live in that schoolyard STILL live in that schoolyard, high in their Elm. Everyone (including some gen-u-wyne raptor experts) thought they'd leave as soon as their younguns were out of the nest.
Nope! Apparently they're socially-conscious birds and want to bridge the gap between human-hawk relations. That, and living 100 feet up in a massive tree makes 'em safe.
They come out almost every time I take off there, but just circle the plane a couple of times, then go home.
I have a sneaking suspicion they're making fun of me, but have no proof. *)
Flyer
ya think they may have talked to the eagles
Ok. I want a Tie-Dye grip!! any ideas?? Also, it would be cool to make a simulated wood-grain grip. If either one of these can be accomplished, i will order a p-32 hard crome with ivory grip, stainless belt clip and bersa finger extension.
Did anyone figure out how to do a wood-grain grip? I have just bought a P-3AT with a stock BUG (butt ugly green) grip. It would look nice with wood-grain.
