I would have to agree with Tanks. If he took your license and guns to his car he was running the serial numbers and you through NCIC to check for stolen weapons and for any Wants and Warrants. Stopping you for a seat belt violation is not probable cause for disarming you. I would report him to his superiors least his attitude continues. I understand their concerns, my uncle was a 20 year LEO but they are not the law. Unless he was arresting you he had no reason to search your person. If he didn't trust you why should you trust him?

I have to disagree with you I was a Feaderal Boarding Officer for the USCG for 20 years we always removed weapons placed them in our boarding bag for the safety of the officer and the parties involved. Just because you have a CWP does not mean your one of the good guys. The office acted properly in running the serial numbers of the weapons. Had the office placed him in cuffs would have been another matter. I would have reacted the same as the officer making the stop. Think about if it was you in the officers situation.

A bad guy isn't going to tell a LEO he is armed. If a man tells an officer he is armed and that he has a carry license , the LEO should ask for it and maybe run it. But there is no reason to disarm a man who has been up front from the get go. That is the reason I don't want " duty to inform " in our bill when it finally goes through. I think there are only 8 or 10 states that have a duty to inform . I used to think a person should let a LEO know he was packing just as a courtesy but after reading several stories of people being taken out of their vehicles at gun point after informing , not anymore. I also don't go along with this " officer safety " excuse . If it is a known felon , that is one thing but when a normal traffic stop is made and the man notifies LEO of being armed , there is no reason to get bent.

They should, if you hit enter a couple of times between them.

    This is the second paragraph.

Here is the third. I am using a regular laptop and hitting the [Enter] twice between paragraphs. YMMV especially if you are not using a Windows based computer.

Oh, and you can see the results before submitting by tapping the "Go Advanced" button with your mouse.

When the officer runs your license it will come up if you have a Carry Permit, so required or not, might as well be up front. Keep your hands where they can be seen and follow the officer's instructions. If he's an A-hole you can take that up with his superiors later. I figure if I tell them first thing and cooperate then they've no legal reason to hassle me.
Sure you can trust the Government. Just ask any Indian!
