    However...from the article you linked -

    "If it does not pull to the weak magnet at the tip, but it does to a magnet placed on the side of the bullet, you can bet the core is steel and the jacket is CN or GM (non-magnetic). If the jacket is steel, I have never been able to discern the core material with a magnet."

    This is exactly what it feels like with a magnet, as if it wants to pull to the side of the bullet, not the top.
