Got my 'A' model in - has the 'B' model (M16 style) sights. And this past week, got in four extra Magpul poly magazines and some 5.56 Federal/Lake City XM-193 ammo. I'll be heading out to the range in the next couple of days (for the first time). At the recommendation of another owner, I broke it down and cleaned it and exercised the ejector several hundred times and lubed it good so hopefully that won't be a problem. Also made an alternate stock take down pin (pics below) following what looked like a good idea to me, off of You Tube.
Question: I've heard it (from more than one person) recommended to remove the parkerazation off the underneath side of the bolt and other places that have metal-to-metal contact in the receiver housing area. Has anyone here done that and what's the group thinking on the need to do that?
Just need to add a securing lanyard now - to be made with one of those wrist cords like you see attached to cameras. Had to buy a longer than needed ring hitch pin from Lowes ($2.94 here in Big D), so I cut it down and fashioned it from there (put on a little smaller ring). Amazing what can be done with a Dremel (cut-off & grinding) tool and a soap stone. Won't be loosing this puppy now!
