True... Good optics ~= the price of a decent AR, though several are still more ($1200-$1500).

As of tomorrow (12/14) it will be five months since I sent off the paperwork and still no response other than they cashed the check a few weeks after I mailed in the papers. I still hold out hope of getting the stamp in the mail before the end of this year but with only three weeks left it's looking grim.

It's the "Charlie" model offered with the SU-16 and list's for about $90, tax included.

Also, an UPDATE on the status of my class III stamp: I received my application back from the ATF yesterday, which was part good news and part bad. The bad part was it was returned because of an error I made on the application back in early July when I submitted the form. OTOH, the good news is it wasn't actually rejected. The letter that accompanied the application said I needed to correct the error, initial the change and return the corrected form (along with the letter from the ATF) within 30 days so my paperwork could be completed.

While it's been over six months since I began this project, at least I know the status of my application for the stamp and as soon as I can get the corrected form in the mail and back to the ATF, things should go smoothly. While I didn't get the stamp in time for Christmas - that would have been a nice finish to an otherwise generally dismal year - I now know it's in the works and except for the error on the application that needs my attention, everything seems to be on track. Oh well, after this much time what's a few more weeks (months?).

FYI, as a bit of additional background information, the "error" involved a question I originally had when completing the Form 1 because of a conflict between the Form 1 instructions and the info put out on the ATF web site (it involved my DOB and where to put it on the form). I called the regional ATF office and was told to follow the instructions on the site. The letter I received with my returned forms said it isn't suppose to be there and I need to remove it from the application. Oh well. so much for going to the source for the correct answers to my questions!

    It's here!!

I got the stamp a few days ago and things are finally moving along. Actually, I was surprised at how quickly the stamp arrived after I returned the corrected form. Anyway, I got everything assembled over the weekend and all I need to do now is get some info engraved on the receiver. One thing I really like is I can now replace the original grip/stock, remove the vertical grip and/or barrel extension or mix any combination of them at will. Here are a few photo's of the current finished product (subject to change)... happy-happy, joy-joy!

I'm still just across the river from you. I'd love to see your new trophy some day at the ETRPC range

I haven't been to the ETRPC in a while. I've just been doing other things and haven't really had the time or inclination lately, especially with the holidays the last few months and school starting. Now that I have my stamp for the PLR I'll be going out to the range to check out the new gun and see how good of a job I did. Most of my trips now are in the early afternoon (between noon and 3PM) on weekdays while my kids are still in school and the wifes at work. Once I know everything is working as it should, I have a few other guns that need a little workout and I'll let you know when I'll be heading out to the club.

yeah, I haven't been going much myself. Up until three years ago it was three to four times per week, now down to about once a month.

I too am thinking of doing the SBR, I have everything I need to do it except for the stock. My question to all is this, can you use a slide stock (bump fire) on the PLR-16 with the stock converision kit?
So far this is just a idea and would only be put into the real world after all BATFE rules and tax stamp was paid for and approved, and after someone with much more experience knows if this works. No need in buying anything if it wouldn't.
    Thanks
Shoot'em in the head... they stay dead!
