I am seriously considering the purchase of TWO PF-9 pistols!

Since my purchase of the "Kelly" (my name for the new Kel-Tec P-11.) I am seriously contemplating purchasing a pair of Kel-Tec PF-9 pistols for both the Mrs. and myself. These are such compact little "hideaway handguns" that the BG wouldn't know what hit him, until he felt the 124-grain JHP suddenly expanding in his/her body! Deep concealment inside my sportcoat (as well as her clothing) are a prime consideration when it came to selecting these pistols.

A number of questions come to mind:

    a) Do these pistols have a decent "track record" of 'holding together'? (Are they reasonably durable?)

    b) Are they as accurate as the P-11?

    c) Are they comfortable to shoot for extended periods? (target range shooting.)

    Perspiring minds want to know!

I saw very little difference between the P11 and PF9 in "shootability". I will say that my P11 was more accurate than my PF9, but the PF9 trigger was much better than the P11. As far as shooting sessions, I really don't see much difference. If the P11 had the same trigger as the PF9, I would pick the P11. BUT.... remember, the KT pistols aren't built for a range gun to cycle a bazillion rounds of plinking. They are designed on the cutting edge of size and weight to powere ratio for "shoot a little-carry a lot". Shoot them enough to prove reliability, and often enough to remain competent, and carry with confidence that you can be prepared for that unfortunate moment you just may need to draw in a defensive situation. If you want a "shoot all day range gun", get a steel framed (pick your own brand) handgun - if you want a defensive gun you can comfortably carry all day, the P11 or PF9 will do the job.

What Surv said, except your shoot all day guns don't necessarily have to be steel framed...just bigger and designed more for shootability, rather than concealability. The cut-off point where shootability begins to be sacrificed for the other is in guns like the Glock 26. As you go smaller and lighter, concealability begins to exceed shootability in terms of design emphasis.

Your PF-9 will be okay to shoot, but not better than the Glock 26...however it will be much thinner and a bit lighter and therefore better for concealment, which means you will be more likely to have it with you when you need it. The same is true when comparing it to the P-11 (although I don't think I have ever shot one).

I understand the "carry a lot, shoot a little" concept. (I have been shooting since 1961.) The entire idea behind the pair of hard-chromed slide PF-9 pistols is modern, discreet, carry.

This should be easily accomplished with the PF-9 pistols (sans the potential of slide corrosion.) I believe that my wife will handle the pistol with aplomb, and take the "errant malefactor" completely by surprise! (Needless to say, I want the 'lead injections" to be "terminating" in their performance!)

I'll still carry my P-11, but the PF-9 can perform a "disappearing act" and remain undisclosed under all but the most "dire" circumstances.

I am certain that you understand.
