    P-11 assembly issue

I got a new P-11 from my dealer this morning. Before taking it to the range I read the manual (twice) and field stripped it for cleaning and oiling. On reassembly when I locked the slide back, the barrel fell most of the way forward and then stopped with about 1/8" to go before it lined up with the hole for the take-down pin. I thought I was doing something wrong, as the manual seems to say that it should fall all the way forward, so I took it apart again and started over. Same thing happened. I used the end of a brush handle to push it into place against light resistance through the ejection port and then the pin went in and everything seemed fine. I fired a hundred rounds without any issues at all. When I cleaned it again after I got home, I had the same problem.

Is this normal? Thanks in advance.

Wow! It has been a long time since I took a P-11 apart. Mine was purchased used. I don't recall having the issue you describe, so I am guessing it will be easier once the pistol has worn various parts smooth during break in. In the meantime, you got it back together and it ran OK, so you are good to go. See if it doesn't become easier with more rounds.

Sorry not to be more definitive. In the thousands of rounds put through my P-11, this was never an issue. But, it was well broken in.

What Tucson said...it'll stop doing that after it's good and broken in.

I had the same issue with my P11 and PF9 when I first got them. Like Haugrdr stated, "What Tucson said". No worries.

Thanks for the replies. I put another hundred rounds through it today and it's still the same, but it doesn't worry me now as the gun works flawlessly. It's pretty accurate too for what it is. You'll never win a 50 yard marksmanship event with it, but that isn't what it's made for.

So far it has digested both Remington and Fiocchi FMJ ammunition without any issues. I have some Hornaday Critical Defense rounds for carry and I guess I should make sure that it likes those too, since there will be a lot at stake should I ever have to use them.

I have had the same issue. Thought I was doing something wrong when I was putting it back together. I have had it apart for cleaning now 10 times and about 500 rounds in it. Still having the issue. Hope things fall into place as others have stated with more ware. Good Luck.

    Question

Mine also gives some issues when reassemblying ( is that a word ) it. But as was stated the weapon has worked perfectly, so an extra minute of assembly I can live with.

I found that when putting the slide on the frame, if you hold it upside down and reassemble it, it will generally work properly. That or push forward on the barrel with the slide locked to the rear, then insert the takedown pin.

Yep. Same problem here. I too thought I was doing something different/wrong, but I also figured how to push it "further to the front of the slide" and that resolved the issue. Same thoughts though, it's back together the way it is supposed to be and it works.

My only other issue is a hang up when racking the first shell into the chamber/slide. It seems like almost every magazine has the same issue. Pull the slide back, the round is lifted into the chamber, and the slide comes back about 1/2" and sticks. The round is then in a tilted up position but not going into the firing position. I say almost every magazine, because it seems really apparent when it is 'cold', but will happen with a reloaded magazine after its been fired a couple of times. No real consistency to the problem, but more noticeable when loading for the first time. It really seems to be a crap-shoot for it to occur.

That being said, sometimes I can get the slide to complete the circuit, sometimes, I have to release the magazine, and re-rack the chamber thus kicking the hung shell out of the gun through the magazine port. I figured a fluff and buff would help, but haven't gotten to that yet.

Been a couple of weeks since I've shot it. Think it's time to go again.
