\"Assault rifles\" and ammo selling like crazy

Well, if there is anything good I can say about last tuesdays results it would be that our various "evil assault rifles" have already increased in value.

Listening to the Gordon Liddy show Friday......LOTS of talk about the run on these type rifles, as well as ammo now that the Dems are gonna most likely bring back the AWB.
Whether purchasing for personal use or for investment purposes, they are moving fast.

Also read in today's paper of one gun store owner catching flack for his "Obama sale"...regardless of his intent, using Obama's name was ,of course, "racially motivated".

Don't want to sound like Chicken Little, but take a look around your local gunstore.

I don't see how they are going to be able to ban ammo. We just had the Heller ruling and it made it pretty clear there is an individual right. A right to weapons is a right to the ammo too.

I don't think AWB2 is going to be so easy for them to pass. A lot of Dems in congress lost jobs over the first one, and many were pressured by the party to vote for it. Since that time, a growing number of Dems have decided to vote pro-gun. With all the so-called "change" they are claiming to have to get busy on, taking time trying to revive an agenda that could very easily get bounced by SCOTUS anyway isn't going to further their other goals, like wealth re-distribution, and a giant take-care-of-people federal government.

    I got mine!

But, more seriously, although the price of .308 Win match ammo has not gone up yet, my favorite ammunition supplier has gone from "Sure, we will get that out today." to "Hey, this might not go out until next week, hope that's Okay."

I expect this to be a short term phenomenon as all the folks who were planning to get around to buying someday, suddenly start to worry that things will be more expensive when someday arrives.

Given what I paid last year when I stocked up on .45 ACP versus this year's pricing, they are correct.

I traded my MAK-90 for a Sharps 45-70. At my age I'm no longer able to survive a firefight, but I can sit back with the Sharps, which I call my "AT&T" rifle - I can reach out and touch someone...

    Hey Joseph!

    "AT&T rifle" is clever.

That's quite a transistion from utilitarian to elegant. I'll bet it is a hoot to shoot and gets a lot of attention at the range.

My wife and I are finding that shooting something a little special and sharing with fellow Pima Pistol Club members makes for a very enjoyable outing.

Here's hoping you are enjoying your new toy.

TucsonMTB . . . who cannot remember a bad day at the range, unlike the office.

If you buy it outright, it's an arm and at least half a leg. But I cast my own bullets and reload, so it's fairly cheap, even though black powder has tripled in the last decade.

I can't claim it - I got it from Fred McIlveen, the gentleman/contrary old fart who taught me to shoot.

There aren't many ranges where I can shoot it. It's not exactly a 25 yard rifle.

Well, it's hardly a new toy - I made that trade years ago - though I've enjoyed it a lot.

It's a bottom-of-the-line repro by Taylor, actually made by Pedersoli. I took it to a black powder cartridge shoot at the Fairfax Rod & Gun Club in Virginia and the guy running the shoot looked down his nose at my rifle and made some snotty comment. He had a Shiloh Sharps .40-65 and probably had more money invested in his Vernier tang sight than I had in my whole rifle.

When the scores were tallied at the end of the day, I had out-shot him.

After the match I held out my rifle and said, "Wanna trade?"

    He was not amused.

    Fred was, though...

    And so am I.

We shoot at the Pima Pistol Club where the main rifle range is 100 yards. There is another range that can be configured for up to 300 yards, but we have not shot at that distance. The visual backdrop is Pusch Ridge and quite pretty.

We are new enough to our rifle that competition has not entered our minds. Neither my wife nor I are very competitive by nature.

The folks we shoot with, especially on the pistol range, seem to take pleasure in each other's success, and so do we.

    Thanks for sharing your success!

I've seen a few reports of inflated prices on weapons at guns shows this past week. I can see nothing yet to justify this. It's call price gouging.

I have a Springfield rolling block (1870) .50 cal that I would sure like to have some ammunition for, and maybe a C&R reloader like you that xcould keep me resupplied.

Maybe I can find a pic to post.

I would love to shoot it. You just inspired me to think about it again
