I would add that every range will have range officers. Most are knowledgeable, and willing to help get new shooters started on the right path. There will also be other shooters there. I have helped more than one person on the range that seemed to be having problems or wanted to try one of my guns. Don't be afraid to ask questions.
If someone seems annoyed or doesn't want to be bothered and acts as if they are God's gift to marksmanship, they are probably just an asshole, and you'd be better off to leave them alone and ask someone else. In my experience, they are the least knowledgeable and/or least safe people on the range anyway.
