Signed up for My CCW class yesterday.

Finally sign up for the required class. Class is to be held the 22nd of July, sounds like it will be fun.
I will be using my P11 for the class.

While at the gun shop (thats where you sign up for the class) I was looking around and found a pinky extension for the mag. on my P11. So I had to pick it up, was hoping to find another magazine but no luck. I went to buy some ammo for the class, you need to bring 150 rounds, and the guy at the shop sold me Federal White box pretty cheap. But I've never shot this brand. Anyone have a problem running them through the P11. I will go out one morning this week and give them a try.

Well anyway after the class I just have to apply to the state for my permit. And also find a good holster.

    Good first step!
As far as ammo, get the good stuff for your CCW class, you don't want to be 'that guy' who has ammo-related failures in the middle of qualification.

    Good luck!

If you get a good instructor you will learn what not to do. I've been licensed since the beginning in our state. So much better than open carry, which upsets some people. I recently gave up my 2 pounder for a P3AT and I am enjoying the comfort more than ever. Have fun in your class and remember your permit and your gun will not help you if they are locked in your safe.
Do you have open carry in Michigan? The latest trick of the gun haters in some states is to catch a CCW holder with a gun that is not totally concealed. Several states have had to scramble to cover that issue.

Finally doing it myself this month too. In Tx I can carry to my truck, work, and house. This is made it near unnecessary to get it, but this way I can carry in a few more places.
Better to have one and not need it then to need one and not have it.

I was stunned when I heard that Texas did not allow open carry. I mean the place where all the cowboy gun toting films were made. By all means get your CCW. Remember if your state does not have open carry your CCW has to be totally concealed. I am often reminded of the video of the lady ridiculing congress because she was not allowed to carry her gun into Luby's Cafeteria where her two helpless parents died. We have over 30,000 CCW holders in AZ and not a single person at the Tucson massacre was armed except the shooter. Duh!

Not true, one of the people who rushed out of Safeway to help was a CCW holder.

Close but no cigar. Or maybe I should say cigarette. Unfortuately that guy had stopped to get a package of cigarettes. A women actually grabbed the gun while Laughner was trying to reload. The fact remains no one there was carrying. What a shame.
My CCW ( P3AT ) is always in my pocket unless it needs to be cleaned. What a perfect gun for the job.

zebcoboy is referring to Dr. Suzanna Hupp. Her testimony before various committees, and her sincere zeal was one of the turning points in the several year struggle to get licensed conceal carry legislation in Texas (finally in 1995). If I remember my state's history, the legislative session in 1988-89 was the beginning of the actual legislative process. It took a few more years, and a few idiotic tradgedies before the state made a first step. In the last 17 years, our 2A rights (Section 23 in the Texas Constitution) have been extremely advanced. Even though there's a rabid group of "constitutional carry" supporters scattered across the country, we're doing quite well in Texas. I would put our "where/when you can carry" laws up against about any of the 50 states (o.k......57 states if you're an obama supporter). Open carry isn't the end all-do all to 2A.

Funny thing... my wife moved here to NE TX in 1969 from Tennessee expecting to see nothing but desert, cactus and rattle snakes. It was a rude awakening when she saw the semi-rolling terrain and pine forest that looked the same as she left back North of Nashville a few hours earlier. Some folks just watch too damn much TV.
